Challenge....

Ok.

Simply put, I've been working out here and than starting this year.
However, it is not showing ANY physical transformation what so ever... I want to cry lol

and frankly, I'm tired of it.

Than recently, my crew mate ilya introduced me to Brad Pitt's workout plan that he did to prepare for the character he played in the movie "Fight Club".

He did some research and told me that he gained this body....

ONLY BY UPPER BODY AND CARDIO WORKOUT....

to me that super ideal because
1. I need to put some muscle on my chest to do some chest pop (chest pop is essential in having a hard hit in popping but I got no muscle.....)
2. I want my arms to be more thicker because my arms are like sticks....
3. I do a lot of cardio exercises (includes dancing)

Well honestly speaking, I've always wanted to get jacked on my upper body.

I've always been really REALLY thin. I'm just tired of looking weak and want to look more confident.

So instead of sticking to my own workout plan and diet, I'm going to do exactly what Brad Pitt did to prepare for Fight Club. (There will be slight adjustments at the beginning because some of the weights are too heavy for me to even do a single rep).

Here is his work out and diet plan. (By Brad Campbell of Top Fat Loss Trainer)
(Brad Pitt reportedly used a weight that would allow for 15 reps with proper form, where failure would be reached on the last repetition. He performed 3 sets per exercise and used 60 second rest periods in between sets).

Workout Plan

Monday-Chest
3 – 25 push ups (75 push ups)
3 – bench press – 25, 15, 8 reps (165, 195, 225)
3 – nautilus press (80, 100, 130)
3 – incline press (80, 100, 130)
3 – pec deck machine (60, 70, 80)
Tuesday – Back
3 – 25 pull ups
3 – seated rows (75, 80, 85)
3 – lat pull downs (135, 150, 165)
3 – t bar rows (80, 95, 110)
Wednesday – Shoulders
3 – arnold press (55, 55, 55)
3 – laterals (30, 30, 30)
3 – front raises (25, 25, 25)
Thursday – Biceps & Triceps
3 – preacher curl machine (60, 80, 95)
3 – ez curls cable (50, 65, 80)
3 – hammer curls (30, 45, 55)
3 – push downs (70, 85, 100)
Friday – Cardio
Treadmill – 60 minutes at 80-90% MHR
Saturday – Cardio
Treadmill – 60 minutes at 80-90% MHR
Sunday – Rest
Maxin’ and Relaxin’

Diet Plan
Breakfast:
6 egg whites (a few yolks added in) and 75 grams of oatmeal with raisins for added taste. Pitt also substituted a protein shake for the eggs if he was short on time.

Morning snack:
canned tuna in wholewheat pita wraps.

Lunch:
2 chicken breasts, with 75-100 grams of brown rice and green vegetables.

Afternoon snack:
protein bar or whey protein shake and 1 banana (this was pre-workout time).

Post-workout snack:
another whey protein shake and 1 banana.

Supper:
Grilled fish or chicken, more brown rice, veggies and a large salad.

Bedtime snack: low fat cottage cheese or a casein protein shake.

I here by declare to keep this up for AT LEAST two month (because I may be traveling for summer vacation). If I successfully continue this and see promising results, I will continue it and hopefully find balance between keeping a good physic and dance ability.

I'm scared and I know this is a HUUUUUGE challenge for me....

But you gotta take a step and try your best to become what you want to be....

Peace and God Bless to all

First rap music I heard....

Funny story.

My mom loved foreign music since she was in high school.
In her early 20th, she met R&B music. The artist that caught her soul was the infamous "Earth Wind and Fire".

She told me that she would listen to their music while I was in her stomach. Well, that explains why the first music genre I got into was R&B :)

In the 90's, Hip Hop and Rap music took over the world by craze.
Of course my mom was interested and bought some CDs.

With in the CDs she bought, Coolio's was there.
Therefore, I got introduced to rap music with one of rap music's epic track of all time, "Gangsta's Paradise".

I didn't understand what the hell he was saying, I was 9 years old Japanese kid.

But I loved it, and I still love this song.

I even remember taking this to my English class in London (I lived there for 3.5 years from the age of 9-13) as an assignment to introduce the songs to the class.
My teacher was surprised as hell because this Japanese kid who just came from Japan started playing this hardcore gangsta rap LOL

But yea, I know many of you know this song but take a minute to listen to it.
Take yourself back to the 90's. The music industry need to bring real artist who can produce master records like this for real.....

Super Dope Funk Explosion 2

Super Dope Funk Explosion 2
The name already describes how the Jam went last weekend.

From cyphers to the workshops, I feel like every participants enjoyed every aspect of this event.

The music (By DJ/poppin Joker), the audiences, poppers, judges/teachers, atmosphere and the vibe were extraordinary.

It was definitely one of the hypest and the dopest event I’ve been to in my life as a dance lover.

Super Dope Funk Explosion (SDFX) is hosted annually by Greg “G” Li ( I apologize for miss spelling your last name on the previous blog) and and Boston University Dance group called Bulletproof Funk. I decided to go to this event this year for couple reasons.

1. because my bro, Poppin iLL, is battling so I wanted to support as always

2. The Judges were Slim Boogie, Mosta Pop, and Poppin Todd, which is a very interesting mix of poppers and I was interested in taking their workshop.

3. There were dope popping competitors such as Venom, Mark Flux, Katalyst, YJ, Lady Beast, Wookie, Shawn and many more poppers that I’m friend with.

The event was very organized, which was impressing because MOST OF THE EVENT IS VERY DISORGANIZED and that takes away peoples energy by the end of the event. Therefore, usually people are tired to even focus on the Final Battles, WHICH SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. (In my opinion)

Even though there were slight schedule changes, the event run according to the schedule that was provided by the Greg through email to the event participants before the battle. Therefore, i was not disappointing by the sudden changes such as getting kicked out from the location, shorting the rounds or the battle time, doing a 3 way battle above top 16 and etc (these are from my personal experience).

I’ve told you many times already Greg but thank you for organizing this event in a way that people can focus on enjoying the dance. You’ve provided a great Jam experience to many dancers that night. Much respect.

Not only was it well organized, the poppers brought their A game.

There were total of approximately 40-50 poppers who entered the competition. I’d say I was impressed by most of them. Poppers were getting down hard up to a point where I was imagining that “if I was the judge, I would REALLY struggle picking only 16 poppers out of this many”.

After 30 min break top 16 was announced. I was luckily chosen to be in the top 16.

The top 16 poppers were……

1. Venom (Canada)

2. Kai (NY/Portland/China)

3. Katalyst (Boston)

4. FW (Montreal)

5. Mark Flux (D.C/Boston/LA)

6. Sun (NY/Korea)

7. Sugaloo (NY/Japan)

8. Jon Lock (NY)

9. A-Boogie (Boston)

10. Android (NY/Germany)

11. Wookie (D.C)

12. Abnormal (Montreal)

13. Rawss (Montreal)

14. Shawn (Montreal)

15. Dassy (Korea)

16. YJ (Boston/Korea)

Every battle was intense and hyped the crowd up like CRAAAAAZZZYYY lol

Check out the Battles from Daveshi’s Channel! (Subscribe if you like good quality battle footage on the eastcoast)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC9979egBds&list=PL0001AB69CC7E7096&index=1&feature=plpp_video

My top 3 battles of the night were

3. Mark Flux VS Abnormal

2. Katalyst VS Mark Flux

1. Katalyst VS Venom

I don’t want to spoil the battle so I strongly recommend you guys see the battle!

Finally, even though this was one of the best Jam I’ve ever been to, the number of audiences were very small. Most of the spectators were poppers who entered to compete. This Jam DEFINITELY has the attractiveness to bring in more audiences from diverse back ground. Of course it is very important to focus on providing the best experience for the poppers, (since its a popping jam) however, the event organizer always have to keep in mind that a Jam is an environment that has the power to get people inspired to the start dancing.

Therefore, if you want to contribute to the growth of a dance style, you have to reach out to the new audiences. This will grow your venue, but at the same time it will help build the dance community, which is essential to street dance since it is still a small dance world compare to other dance.

But over all, the event never lost its hype from beginning to the end. I personally enjoyed it very much and would love to go attend the Jam next year.

Lastly, thank you to all the poppers, dancers, and audiences for showing love. It was pleasure to meet, reunite, dance and battle with all of you.

Peace, love, and god bless you all.

What the Funk?! Crew

Aug 4, 2011

Battle Team, 神風(kamikaze) of What The Funk?! Crew.

The idea sparked from SUGALOO and Poppin iLL talking about becoming a 2 man battle team of our crew since we've been battling together at events constantly.

We chose the name 神風(Kamikaze) because we want to become battling poppers that destroy everything that stands in our way (opponent)to reach the goal(winning the battle) and also to bring new flavor to the scene.

According to the ancient story of Japan, Kamikaze is formed by two gods know as Fujin (風神)god of wind and Raijin(雷神)god of lightning.

They are also one of the most well known gods in Japan because the painting by Tawaraya Soutatsu titled 風神雷神図 Fujin Raijin zu(picture below) is preserved as a national treasure in Japan.

To make this vision and hope to life, I created a customize hat and shirt.

he hat is done and here it is

Dancer=Athletes of God=Food management a MUST!!!

Dancers are Athletes of God-Albert Einstein 1879-1955

Sup yall, SUGALOO here after selling some more tea lol.

Ok today I wana talk about the importance of conditioning your body through diet.

The food you consume daily is what energize your body to move.
It is your life source and being reckless about it could make a big difference specially for those who use their body.

Its similar to a camp fire.
If you want the fire(you) to be strong and to last for a long time, you would need to find a healthy, thick dried wood(food) that will burn for a long time.

Eating junk food is like using a wet, thin branches that contains no minerals and vitamins needed to maintain our body that burns out really fast.

Therefore, dancers having a poor diet habit is extremely unprofessional since their body should mean everything to them.

acknowledging that, I've began creating my own diet menu using a website called Cramer Japan:Athletic Solutions.

The website list the following solutions.

<1> Staple Diet

This refers to rice, bread, banana, food that contains starchy material which includes natural sugar that helps to energize your body. Having this is essential to get your body to move.

<2>Main Dish

This refers to food such as meat, fish, egg, tofu, those that are rich in protein. Choosing good quality main dish is important because protein recovers the muscle tissue that you've broken from working out and also is an essential source for growth for youth.

<3> Vegetables(Green Food)

This is part of diet that most people lack in consuming. Vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals that conditions your body, prevent constipation, and enhances the strength of tendons and ligaments.
I know MANY people hates green peppers, carrots, and spinach, but those are one of the best vegetables to consume for vitamins and minerals.

<4> Daily food

Daily food such as Milk, cheese,yogurt is full of calcium and vitamins that is necessary for body growth.
The webpage recommend 2 cups of milk every day.

<5> Fruits

Great source for natural Vitamin C. Recommended to take fruits such as orange, grape fruits, strawberry and kiwi.

So, the dish I've come up with according to the recommendation of the webpage looks like this!!!

Breakfast....

1= Peanuts Butter Bread
2= Flied Egg
3= Mixed Salad
4= Glass of Milk
5= Kiwi

Lunch....

1= Bowl of rice
2= Flied Egg
3= Miso Soup
4= Glass of Milk
5= Kiwi

Supper!!!

1= Bowl of rice
2= Grilled Pork
3= Mixed Salad
4= Glass of Milk
5= Kiwi!!! lol

I've continued to watch my diet for couple month since May and it actually worked.

Setting the time to eat (breakfast 7AM,lunch 12PM,supper 7PM) creates a good habit to you body that I felt my body functioning much smoothly for the past couple month.

I've been slacking lately so I have to get back to it but this is definitely something to think about if you wish to transform your body or get it set up to practice dancing hardcore.

Hope this helps you to watch you diet!

Peace and God Bless
