3 reasons why I would never forget this day.

There are 3 reasons why this day is very memorable in my life since I was born.

Let me tell you why.

1. Its my mothers birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!

2. 6/25/2009 was my brothers graduation day.

3. It was the day Michael Jackson began his journey to the other side.

6/25th three years ago was pretty emotional day.

First, my brothers and I were happy to congratulate our mothers birthday.
Than we attended my brothers high school graduation. Although my brother caused numerous issues at high school, we were all happy that he graduated.

Than, Micheal left.

Man, what a shock.
I couldn't believe.....no, DIDN'T want to believe that it was true.

Iconic figure of the century passed away on one of the happiest day for my family.

My emotion was confused the whole day.

Its painful that we humans only realize the true importance of something once we loose it.....just like how Micheal sings to us through his beautiful song, Earth Song....

What we care about it always in front of us. But its so natural and organic. Therefore, we get used to having it around us and forget to pay attention to the small changes we make everyday with our selfish actions.

The action escalates and when we realize the problem, its usually too late....

Michael spoke the "truth".
"Truth" is something much important than money or education that we put so much focus on.
"Truth" is what my mother focused on when raising me. She wished for her sons to have a good heart instead of being smart saying "Education is important, but its not what I'm most concerned about. I want you to be a big heart. A person that understand others truthfully from the heart."
"Truth" is what I focused on when I lectured my brothers. I wanted all of us to stay united and build a strong bond, trust through telling the truth to each other.

We must listen and understand the truth behind messages.
Micheal had the power to spread that message within his beautifully, soulfully perfected music.

May you rest in peace King Of Pop.

Peace and God Bless..

Day 11: Second week weight section overrrrr :D

Man I hate lifting weights lol
Its not that I hate the workout process.
I like concentrating on the muscle you are working out and repeat the simple repetitive movements.

I just hate it because it CLEARLY displays how much weight you can handle in numbers LOL
Its like my capability is graded right on that spot and you see the numbers going up and down, up and down, up and down.........

until your face turns like

THIS lol

and realize that its still much lighter than others around you.

sigh. Its tough  lol

But this week I was able to challenge myself.
There is no significant changes, but I was able to workout using weights that are little heavier than last week.
Its still very small, but I still made a difference. I hope to continue it to make a big difference by repeating this process.

Changing something is always difficult.
You have to believe yourself and over come boundaries, challenges that sometimes only you encounter.

Ernestine Shepherd, is a female body builder who holds the title of "Oldest Female Bodybuilder" in the Guinness Book of World Record. She began working out in her mid 50's and entered her first body building competition when she was 71 years old. now she is 75.

Can you believe she is 75????

Think about it. If your grand parents began saying "I'm going to become a bodybuilder" how would you react?

"That's dangerous. I don't recommended"
"Impossible"
"They are loosing their mind"

That's how we generally react.

But why? because we are educated to believe in such a way.

But seriously, consistent dedication allows human beings to accomplish amazing things.

Regardless of what you do in life, none of the effort is meaningless.
It will help you to accomplish something in life. You have to trust yourself. Nobody knows you better than yourself (and the god you believe).
If you stay humble and challenge yourself, you will accomplish something.

The size of the accomplishment doesn't matter.
What matters is that you made a difference, and you have to keep on going.

"Don't let the system control your mind. Be free minded and dream. Nothing is impossible"

Peace and God Bless.

JAPAN, LA, and NY

So to those of you who had been reading my blog (thank you), yesterday I said there is a big reason behind doing this training right?  WELL HERE IS THE REASON WHY!!!

On August 10th, I'll be going back to Japan for a week.
Than, I'll fly back to the U.S but will be visiting LA for a week before coming back to NY! lol

In LA, me and my crew mate Ilya are planning to train under various poppers to improve our dance skill.
This is the reason why I'm currently working out.

I know that in West Coast, there are many O.Gs and world class poppers.
They have much more diverse technique in popping than we do here.
To get the best out of the training by them, I thought it will be best to at least be fit enough to endure any type of training

Our goal is not to go to LA and learn how to do the training and be satisfied.

The goal is to learn quickly and begin the training in LA, grasp as much as we can so that we can continue the training even after coming home.

Therefore, in order to gather as much as we can and to keep up with poppers that are much better than us, I believe its best to be in our finest shape.

So there it is. Today is DAY 3 and I'm keeping up with the plan.

Super Dope Funk Explosion 2

Super Dope Funk Explosion 2
The name already describes how the Jam went last weekend.

From cyphers to the workshops, I feel like every participants enjoyed every aspect of this event.

The music (By DJ/poppin Joker), the audiences, poppers, judges/teachers, atmosphere and the vibe were extraordinary.

It was definitely one of the hypest and the dopest event I’ve been to in my life as a dance lover.

Super Dope Funk Explosion (SDFX) is hosted annually by Greg “G” Li ( I apologize for miss spelling your last name on the previous blog) and and Boston University Dance group called Bulletproof Funk. I decided to go to this event this year for couple reasons.

1. because my bro, Poppin iLL, is battling so I wanted to support as always

2. The Judges were Slim Boogie, Mosta Pop, and Poppin Todd, which is a very interesting mix of poppers and I was interested in taking their workshop.

3. There were dope popping competitors such as Venom, Mark Flux, Katalyst, YJ, Lady Beast, Wookie, Shawn and many more poppers that I’m friend with.

The event was very organized, which was impressing because MOST OF THE EVENT IS VERY DISORGANIZED and that takes away peoples energy by the end of the event. Therefore, usually people are tired to even focus on the Final Battles, WHICH SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. (In my opinion)

Even though there were slight schedule changes, the event run according to the schedule that was provided by the Greg through email to the event participants before the battle. Therefore, i was not disappointing by the sudden changes such as getting kicked out from the location, shorting the rounds or the battle time, doing a 3 way battle above top 16 and etc (these are from my personal experience).

I’ve told you many times already Greg but thank you for organizing this event in a way that people can focus on enjoying the dance. You’ve provided a great Jam experience to many dancers that night. Much respect.

Not only was it well organized, the poppers brought their A game.

There were total of approximately 40-50 poppers who entered the competition. I’d say I was impressed by most of them. Poppers were getting down hard up to a point where I was imagining that “if I was the judge, I would REALLY struggle picking only 16 poppers out of this many”.

After 30 min break top 16 was announced. I was luckily chosen to be in the top 16.

The top 16 poppers were……

1. Venom (Canada)

2. Kai (NY/Portland/China)

3. Katalyst (Boston)

4. FW (Montreal)

5. Mark Flux (D.C/Boston/LA)

6. Sun (NY/Korea)

7. Sugaloo (NY/Japan)

8. Jon Lock (NY)

9. A-Boogie (Boston)

10. Android (NY/Germany)

11. Wookie (D.C)

12. Abnormal (Montreal)

13. Rawss (Montreal)

14. Shawn (Montreal)

15. Dassy (Korea)

16. YJ (Boston/Korea)

Every battle was intense and hyped the crowd up like CRAAAAAZZZYYY lol

Check out the Battles from Daveshi’s Channel! (Subscribe if you like good quality battle footage on the eastcoast)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC9979egBds&list=PL0001AB69CC7E7096&index=1&feature=plpp_video

My top 3 battles of the night were

3. Mark Flux VS Abnormal

2. Katalyst VS Mark Flux

1. Katalyst VS Venom

I don’t want to spoil the battle so I strongly recommend you guys see the battle!

Finally, even though this was one of the best Jam I’ve ever been to, the number of audiences were very small. Most of the spectators were poppers who entered to compete. This Jam DEFINITELY has the attractiveness to bring in more audiences from diverse back ground. Of course it is very important to focus on providing the best experience for the poppers, (since its a popping jam) however, the event organizer always have to keep in mind that a Jam is an environment that has the power to get people inspired to the start dancing.

Therefore, if you want to contribute to the growth of a dance style, you have to reach out to the new audiences. This will grow your venue, but at the same time it will help build the dance community, which is essential to street dance since it is still a small dance world compare to other dance.

But over all, the event never lost its hype from beginning to the end. I personally enjoyed it very much and would love to go attend the Jam next year.

Lastly, thank you to all the poppers, dancers, and audiences for showing love. It was pleasure to meet, reunite, dance and battle with all of you.

Peace, love, and god bless you all.

Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does. ~William James

This is a simple beginning of a diary of the journey to my goal and love of dance.

Spring semester2011 at SUNY Purchase College has been the most influential semester of my college life.

I've attended a event called Arts Advocacy Day and listened to actor Kevin Spacey give a speech on how artist in the United States should fight to save the art form they love.

Advocates fought against the U.S government cutting $167million funding to the National Endowment for the Arts down to $124million. Because of advocates effort, the buget was lowered only $12.5million, leaving $155million funding for the Arts.

Here is his the link to Spacey's amazing speech: Watch This Video

Also my mother island, Japan, faced one of the worst Earthquake and Tsunami disaster in human history.
My friends and I at SUNY Purchase College established a group called Save Japan at SUNY Purchase and organized fundraising activities including a professional benefit concert called Notes For Japan

The fundraising activities used up all our free time and energy, leaving us with only couple hours of sleep every day for a month. However, the effort paid off and we managed to raise more than $6,500 alone from concert and close to $20,000 from all activities during the semester.

The semester passed ridiculously fast, but opened my eyes to a whole new world.

Through these events, I've been away from dancing and its politics and concentrated on Arts Management, which is the Major I study at SUNY Purchase College.

Living my days acting as an Arts Manager for the fundraising activities and being involved in arts advocate movement allowed me to realize that I should not only think about how Street Dance can support my life but how "I" can support IT to be in better condition financially and authentically as an art form.

Summer 2011's goal is to figure out how I can help the Street Dance Community. This is going to be my Senior Project that hopefully will benefit the community.

In addition, I will be training my ass off to get back in shape cuz I lost so much weight and are skinny as hell!!! Its tough for me to dance the way I did before!!! lol. I need to bring my game back so I can battle......seriously....
